To become a British citizen, a person should:

1. Check if they meet the eligibility criteria for British citizenship:
   • Be 18+ years old
   • Have an indefinite leave to remain status in the UK (or, in some cases, a permanent residence in another EU/EEA country)
   • Not be subject to any pending criminal cases (unless the court decides that it is in public interest to approve the citizenship application)
   • Have spent at least the last 5 years living in the UK
   • Have a good knowledge of the English language, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic
   • Have knowledge of life in the UK
   • Meet the permanent residence criteria:
     • You must have spent no more than 450 days outside the UK in the past 5 years
     • You must have spent no more than 90 days outside the UK in the last 12 months
2. Gather all the required documents, such as a valid passport, evidence of residence in the UK in the past 5 years etc.
3. Fill out the application form and pay the application fee: Link
4. Attend a citizenship ceremony, at which you will need to swear an Oath of Allegiance and make a Pledge.
